Post Photo Session: Peek Behind the Scenes.

Editing.

Editing is a critical component of dog photography. It is the time we use to process RAWs into the polished final photos that you see. Although we are comfortable with different breeds of dogs and personalities, unlike adult human subjects, we never have that much control over the dogs that we photograph. How much editing we do can come down to how cooperative the pup wants to be on the day.

Camera to the Computer.

These days most camera files go through digital editing processes, including colour correction, white balance adjustment, and some dust or background distraction removal before the images are printed. The digital age allows us to shoot the image in RAW files (uncompressed source data from camera sensor), which have to be “developed” later in a computer program.

Some pups will happily pose and all the shots will be as we imagine, but some pups will run around and not stay still in a beautifully lit area. Apart from the light & colour adjustments mentioned above, edits include removing a leash and distractions such as trash and oddly placed items in the background.

Adding Mood and Atmosphere.

The mood and atmosphere we add to the final image are inspired by the dog and the location of the photo shoot. During the final editing, we try to create an image that highlights the dog’s personality and has an emotional connection.

Creative Art Editing - Optional Extra.

For dog lovers who want something more creative, we offer an extra service where we will select and transform one of your images into a truly unique piece of Wall Art. You will get to view the Creative Art edited version in the online proof gallery along with other images. Whether you choose to use the Creative Art edit for your final print, we’ll leave that up to you. Below are some examples of our Creative Art edits (more in Gallery).
