Travel Series - Black Diamond Lake, Allanson, WA.

The stunning turquoise colour of Black Diamond lake is on full display in sunlight.

Black Diamond lake is actually an abandoned mine site filled with water. It is located in Allanson, a town on the banks of the Collie River, in the South West region of Western Australia. The water hole has one of the most beautiful blue colours. However, it is unmanaged and has no facilities (e.g. toilets and bins), and no camping is allowed here. The lake had rehabilitation work done by the WA Government as a pilot project through the Abandoned Mines Project, in 2016-18 [1]. Hopefully, it will be developed further as an eco-tourism location to lead people to visit struggling nearby towns. Although there weren’t that many people picnicking or swimming when we visited, the insects and ants were plentiful and there were a couple of individuals hooning around in their souped-up cars. So much for serenity!
